Coach Certification Course

For current & future Youth Rec League coaches - Available as needed

Thank you for supporting the kids by volunteering your time every week!

This course is free of charge. It is mandatory for all current Youth Rec League coaches, and highly recommended for those interested in volunteering for a future coaching position. (It will be a requirement for any future coaches.) Our goal is to ensure we’re all on the same page to create a safe and enjoyable atmosphere in our Recreational Leagues.

At some point we will offer both Level 1 and 2 Certifications. For now we will focus on Level l Certification for our Recreational League coaches. Here’s a brief description of the Level I Certification curriculum:


Level I Certification:promo

  1. Stressing a coaching philosophy that encourages development/fun over win/loss record
  2. The Coach as Role Model and Teacher
  3. Play Time
  4. Preparation — Practice plan, Season Plan, Knowledge of the Rules —Fundamentals—Game of Hockey
  5. Communication with players and parents
  6. Basic Positioning
  7. Ethics

AAU Coaching Certification credit

If you would like to get AAU Coaching Certification credit, this course qualifies each AAU Non-Athlete Member that participates. Please email Dave for the details.

  • AAU - Hockey Coaches Advisory Committee Member, Coaching Certification Course Instructor.
